Hunky Dory Folkart & Things

This artist run studio
is owned and operated by Joan and Charlie Payne,
both born in Bonne Bay, in what is now part of Gros
Morne National Park.
Surrounded by natural
wonders , scenic beauty and a rich heritage ,
there are a bounty of themes to interpret into their
distinctive art form and to give these self-taught
artists inspiration.

This husband and wife pair
make their signature lobster lathe
pictures from collected and new lobster
lathes, acrylic paints, and sometimes
found objects . The clothes on the line
are real knitted from natural wools and
fibres by Joan's Mom Marjorie. |

Dory was made by 79 year old
Walter Payne , one of the
few remaining dory builders
in this area. |

Bird house is locally made
by Charlie Payne from used
lobster lathes and collected
driftwood. Joan Payne knits
the funky and oh so one of a
kind hats you see displayed
here.
